The European Bilateral Cooperation Program "Greece - Italy 2007 - 2013"

The European Bilateral Cooperation Program "Greece - Italy 2007 - 2013" was adopted by the European Commission on 28/03/2008 by Decision C (2008) 1132 / 28/03/2008. The total budget of the program amounts to 118.606.893 €, of which national resources are 29.651.723 € (25%), while 88.955.170 € (75%) from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Eligible project areas are the regions of Western Greece (the Departments of Aitoloakarnania and Achaia), Ionian Islands (the Departments of Corfu, Lefkada, Kefalonia and Zakynthos) and Epirus (the Departments of Ioannina, Preveza and Thesprotia) in Greece, and the Region of Puglia in Italy (Provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Lecce). The Departments of Ilia and Arta in Greece and the Provinces of Taranto and Foggia in Italy take part to the program as adjacent areas. The overall objective of the "Greece - Italy" is "to strengthen the competitiveness and territorial cohesion in the region towards sustainable development through the coupling of forces on both sides of the sea border line." This general objective will be achieved through the following strategic objectives:

-Strategic Objective 1: Support of the sustainable economic development, focusing on common comparative advantages.

-Strategic Goal 2: Improvement of the access to networks and services in the area of cooperation, so as the mobility of people and goods to be enhanced.

-Strategic Goal 3: Improvement of the quality of life, maintenance and effective management of the environment and increasing of social and cultural cohesion.
